Measures a little over 1 3/4 inches in length and weighs 39 grams. <P><P>
Silver pill box in the form of a ladies handbag - highly appropriate for Hermes. Decoration in the front is actually the 'thumbpiece' used to pull the box open. <br>
Back and bottom have classic handbag finish. <P><P>
Underneath has engraved hallmarks:HERMES PARIS BDL in a lozenge and 925 (for sterling silver) in a lozenge and finally, MADE IN ENGLAND. <P><P>

ANTIQUE SILVER GILT SNUFF BOX NATHANIEL MILLS Antique sterling silver and gilded silver snuff box. Made circa 1837 by Nathaniel Mills, Birmingham, England. Later engraved. <P><P>
Measurements: 3 3/8" long; 2 1/8 inches wide. Weighs approx 125 grams. <P><P>
Rectangular box with protruding, rounded, raised borders. The lid has two levels with a concave, funnel - angled between the two border strips. Each border strip consists of a raised, rounded profusion of flowers and foliage, very finely moulded and with further engraved detail. Narrow engine turning on sides and outside bottom. The top, flat surface was later engraved: To F.W. Frankland from D.M.L., J.H.R & S.W.D'A.L 1887. <P><P>
The lid is joined to the bottom via a strong hinge all the way accross the back of the box. Inside the box is very richly gilded. <P><P>
Both lid and bottom of box are hallmarked: Lid has monarch's head (William IV); N.M in a rectangle and lion passant. The bottom has
an anchor for Birmingham, maker's mark N.M as on the lid, date letter looks like our D, but probably O, for 1837, used with William's head, although it was the year of Victoria's ascention to the throne. <P><P>
Condition is very good.

ANTIQUE VINAIGRETTE SHELL DESIGN, TESTS 18K G Antique vinaigrette in a shell design. Made in Birmingham, England by ML. Hallmarks too worn to read date. <P><P>
Measures slightly over 1 inch in length. Weighs 12-13 grams. <P><P>
Oval shape. The top and bottom surfaces are made to resemble a sea-shell, with fine ridges radiating from the top, increasing in size towards the front with crimped borders between rows. Sturdy hinges holding top to bottom in good shape. Openwork grille with scrolling, beaded Rococo design. Small indentations in the rim facilitate opening the grille. <P><P>
Hallmarks on the rim of the base. Date letter is not legible. Maker clearly ML. With difficulty, anchor for Birmingham can be seen. <P><P>
We bought this thinking it was gilt washed silver, but it tests for 18 carat gold. You decide. <P><P>

SILVER GILT MOP BOX W EMERALD RUBY SAPPHIRE E Antique snuff box made of silver, gold, mother of pearl, genuine precious gem stones (emerald, ruby, sapphire), hand engraved and enameled and with openwork lions

and crown flanking a huge heart-shaped garnet. <P><P>From the prestigious estate of Mrs Mary Timmins, well-known collector and authority on antiques, who lectured on

the subject in the 1940's, this was one of the pieces she used in her talk on Women in Colonial Days. Her son told me that the box is RUssian, but I found no

hallmarks. <P><P>
Box dates to the 19th century. <P><P>Box measures 2 7/7 X2 1/4 inches. Height is just under 3/4 inch.<P><P>
Rectangular in shape, hinged, long, narrow thumbpiece in front of lid.<P>
Every side of the box is decorated. THe bottom outside is gilt with hand engraving of flowers and foliage. The sides are bordered by slightly protruding rims, with

hand enamelled decoration in red, white and blue very finely painted inbetween. <P>The top is covered first by a layer of mother of pearl. This has gilt overlay

scrollwork over it, with a vignette in the middle with a pair of lions and a crown - very Royal looking. The standing lions hold a large heart-shaped red stone

between them. Above and below are blue oval sapphires and on either side are rectangular emeralds. The corners each have an oval gem with smaller oval rubies on

their inside corners. <P><P>
The inside is clearly gold on the bottom. The top is also metal, copper in colour, and textured like a match strike. <P><P>
I found no identifying marks on the box. <P><P>
Condition is very good.

ANTIQUE ENGRAVED SILVER CARD CASE BIRMINGHAM Antique engraved sterling silver card case. Made in Birmingham, England, 1871. Possibly made by Nathaniel Mills. <P><P>
Measures a little over 4 X 2 3/4 inches. Weighs 60 grams. <P><P>
Rectangular shape with scalloped, curling sides. Hinged lid. The entire surface top and bottom is magnificently hand engraved: a central

circle with space for a monogram (not used) surrounded by an inverted scallope border bright cut crescent moons and concentric rings.

Around this is a mass of flowers and foliage - very beautifully done with incredibly fine detail. Borders are overlapping knots and curls

with a slightly Celtic look. Quality of artistic design and technical mastery is superb. <P><P>
Hallmark on inside lip : W (date mark); anchor (Birmingham); lion (for sterling); Queen Victorian looking left and maker's mark, worn on

the left part, but clearly M on the right - possibly the mark of Nathaniel Mills. <P><P>
Condition: There is a fine split, approx 1cm long, on the join on the side in front of the lid (see 'photos) - not noticeable unless you

are looking for it. No dings/dents.

ANTIQUE ENGRAVED SILVER SNUFF BOX 1793 SAMUEL Antique sterling silver snuff box. Made in Birmingham, England, 1793 by Samuel Pemberton. <P><P>
Measures 3 1/8 inches long. Weighs approx 60g / 2 troy oz. <P><P>
Oval shaped, hinged. The entire outside surface is richly engraved with joyous bright cut designs - floral and geometric and simply decorative. A rectangular cartouche with canted corners in the center has a monogram that looks like JA. Shields on either side are left empty. Even the bottom (underneath) is beautifully decorated. See 'photos. <P>
Inside is in much poorer condition than outside and shows it's age/lack of polishing. However, the outside has a wonderful patina, the engraving is very beautiful and the hinge in good shape. <P>
Hallmarks on top and bottom include a somewhat worn anchor for Birmingham, makers mark SP, date letter V for 1793. <P>

ST SILVER BOX W HP MINIATURE PORTRAIT GIRL RA Sterling silver jewelry / trinket box with handpainted miniature portrait of a beautiful young woman holding a bunny rabbit. Silver is hallmarked for London, England, 1899.<br>
Measures 2 1/2 inches long and almost 1 1/2 inches high. <br>
Oval, hinged box. Unusually deep. No adornment to silver except for the thumbpiece. The top is set with an oval porcelain plaque with a very fine painting of a dark-haired beauty holding a rabbit. She stands in front of a landscape - we see the trees and sky in the background. Wonderful detail - see fine manner eyes, hair and fur were painted, creamy nature of the skin and delicate colouring of the sky. Clearly the work of a master professional.<br>
The box is hallmarked on both bottom and lid. Maker's mark is SC, leopard head, lion and date letter d for 1899. <br>
Condition is very good - no dents/dings/losses/wear/restoration.

FRENCH SILVER BOX HP MINI PAINTING IVORY CAT Sterling silver (actually .950) lidded box with a handpainted portrait of a ginger tabby cat on ivory on the lid. Made in France, 19th century.
2 inches high, 4 1/2inches in diameter.
Round box with fine raised foliage bands around the borders of the lower sectionx Concave steps towards the lid and thumbpiece, continued to the top of the lid, with a gadrooned border, to a central plateau containing a wonderful painting of a ginger tabby cat on ivory. Huge golden eyes, long white whiskers - fabulous thick coat in a myriad of orange and gold shades. The cat's face is caught perfectly. Fabulous detail. Hinged lid. Inside box is gilded.
Silver hallmarks under box, inside box and on side of lid. Male facing left as used for .950 standard from 1879. Maker initials J.M.

Round box with applied floral design with intertwining tendrils. Hinged lid. Measures 2 1/2inches in diameter. Weighs 3 oz. Inside lid is mirror.
All parts in excellent condition with no damage of any sort.
Marked underneath with Georg Jensen logo, HN Denmark, Sterling and 172H.

COMPACT GUILLOCHE ENAMEL ON ST SILVER W BIRDS Guilloche enamel on sterling silver compact. Made in Austria late 19th or early 20th century.
Measures 1 7/8inches in diameter.
Beautiful honey brown guilloche enamel in concentric rings. The central medallion on the lid depicts two birds amidst long-leafed foliage in raised silver. The mirror on the upper inside of the lid has disintegrated from age, but the glass that covers it is still intact. The lower inside is engraved with STERLING SILVER AUSTRIA and hallmarks.
The enamel and silver are in very good condition except for a negligible spot of wear on the back/underside.

STERLING SILVER GILT TIFFANY BOX SNUFF / PILL Small box made by Tiffany. Measures 1 3/8inches high. Diam is 1 1/4inches. Cylindrical shape. The sides are beautifully chased with ribbons and swags. Top is monogrammed MT? Rich gilding. Great quality. Top is closed very tight and I don't want to spoil the great condition by forcing it open. Marked TIFFANY & CO STERLING UNDERNEATH. No dings / dents / damage of any sort.
