GEMSET GOLD TOURMALINE CRUCIFIX CROS PENDANT
Vintage, estate pink and green tourmaline gemstone, set in 14 carat gold, crucifix pendant. Dates to mid 1900's.

Measures 2 inches in length, including the loop.

Crucifix made of tourmalines that look much like rubies and emeralds, in the pink and green colours of the Woman's Sufragette movement of the late 19th and early 20th century. At that time the colours were symbolic; now they are no less attractive, even if the original meaning is lost. The stones are particularly nice in shade and sparkle beautifully with a quiet contrast in colour that makes the pendant particularly pretty. The quality of the pendant is also seen in the secure and well-made setting, done in 14K gold.

Very good condition. No damage/loss/restoration.

ANTIQUE CASTELLANI BROOCH IN ORIGINAL BOX NEO
Antique 18 carat gold broch set with semi-precious stones. Made by the famous firm of Castellani, 19th century.

Measures just under 1 inch in length.

Brooch influenced by the Neo Etruscan / Classic style based on techniques of the Ancient Romans, Greeks and Etruscans. An oval citrine, gently cut into facets atop a golden heart with an oak leaf in it's center. A pair of globular gold balls join the top of the leaf to the upper scrolls of the heart. At the heart's base is a red stone, we think a garnet. The work is done in typical granulated style with fine engraving on the leaf.

The brooch / pin comes in it's original, fitted box - red on the outside with golden C's on both outside of lid and on the silk lining inside.

The pin closes with a simple c-clasp. There is some darkening on the hinge side of the clasp, where the join was possibly redone, but the hinge works well.

The pin is hallmarked on the back for 18K gold and has the intertwining C monogram of the Castellani Company. On the other side of the hinge is another monogram hallmark, which looks like JV or JY.

COndition is good.

ANTIQUE VICTORIAN GOLD ENAMEL AMETHYST BROOCH
Antique Victorian Neo Etruscan Memento Mori memorial / mourning 14K gold, black enamel and cabochon amethyst brooch.

Made circa 1860-1880.

Bullseye shape - almost 1 /1/2 inches in diameter. Weighs 17 grams.

Round, with borders of twisted gold wire in different thicknesses, very typical of the Neo Etruscan filigree jewellery of the time. The sloping surface, like the side of a cone is decorated with a black enamel pattern, leading to more filigree/wire work, which borders a fabulous cabochon amethyst - 1/2 inch in diameter.

The pin at the back has a simple C-clasp. The original curved glass/crystal covers a compartment that might be used for a locket of hair of the departed / loved one. Part of a name, written in black is visible.

There are no hallmarks, but the gold tests for at least 14 carats.

General condition is very good, but a very close inspection with a magnifying glass shows tiny flaws in the surface of the gold (I can't see them even with my glasses).

ANTIQUE GEORGIAN MICRO MOSAIC WOMAN 22K GOLD
Antique Georgian micromosaic brooch with very rare depiction of a woman as a miniature portrait, set in 22 carat gold in the Etruscan Revival style. Circa 1830-40.

Measures 2 inches long.

Outstanding, museum quality micro mosaic, so subtly done that it appears as an oil painting, smoothe to the touch. Tiny tesserae, finely connected to form the image of a woman, dressed in semi Classic Roman robes, typical of the Neo Classical taste of the period. The woman is clearly a historic figure - reminiscent of the great Byzantine mozaic of the Empress Theodora, Justinian's wife. She wears a white turban set with gold and jewels, a white robe with Royal blue shawl and scarlet sash. She also wears fingerless gloves. Her jewellery includes dangle earrings, a brooch set in the turban and her eyes are underlined with black make-up.

The gold mount frame tests for at least 18 carat and probably 22k. Fine granulation and filigree decoration in rings around the oval that slopes inwards, drawing attention to the central figure. The mount is in the Etruscan Revival style with a similar mount shown for a micromosaic Spaniel done by Castellani (plate 56 of Castellani and Giuliano by Geoffrey C Munn).

Very good condition. No chips/cracks/losses/restoration found. See THeodora page 49 of book on Costume and Fashion by James Laver.

ANTIQUE PENDANT FOX TERRIER DOG GOLD & CARVD
Antique Victorian Wire haired Fox Terrier dog carved and handpainted Essex crystal, set in a 14 carat gold drop pendant.

Measures 1 1/2 inches from end to end (including the gold setting).

Round rock crystal, cabochon cut and intaglio carved and then handpainted to depict the portrait of a Wire-haired Fox Terrier with a black collar. The detail is
excellent - from the twirly locks of his coat, to the greying around the nose and black ring around the eyes, that are typical of the breed. The gold setting is
highly attractive and sets off the pendant to great advantage: each section is joined to the next with loops, thus giving a great flexibility to the elegant, long
form.

The back has inscribed hallmark 14K and the name DIANA.

Very good condition.

Antique Victorian signed 9ct gold brooch / pin with a horse and jockey in a horse race. Made circa 1860-1890's, in England.

Measures a tad over 1 1/4 inches long.

WOnderfully modelled figural group of a horse at full gallop with a jockey bent over his back. goldsmith.

The back has it's original hinged C-clasp.

A number of hallmarks appear on the back: Regsitered mark, which indicates that it was probably made in Britain. An incised number:15839. 9Ct and the maker, A&W.

Condition is very good. Magnifying glass reveals that there is a minute hole in the sleeve of the jockey's arm which might be original to the piece (there are also
two definately intentional holes at the back - see 'photos), but I could not see this with my 'naked eyes' and mention it only for the sake of accuracy.
