MINIATURE BIBLE HYMN PSALM SILVER CHATELAINE
Antique miniature Church of England Prayer book, including Hymns and Psalms, in a sterling silver case holder, Birmingham, 1903. <P><P>
The max length of the book is 2 1/4 inches and under 2 inches accross. THe holder is very slightly bigger and weighs 43grams. <P><P>
Beautifully leather-bound book with a gold cross on the front. The sides of the pages are richly gilded and a gold scrolling pattern on the border of the inside covers peeps out around them. Marker made of purple silk. <P>
Spine of the book embossed in gold:Common Prayer, underlined, Hymns A&M. and OXFORD. <P>
One of the front pages informs us: Printed at the University Press London: Henry Prowde. It contains tables of lessons, dates, feasts, etc and sections for Hymns - ancient and modern and Psalms. Illustraded on some pages. <P><P>
The case is made of sterling silver with a beautifully shaped arch cut out on either side. It has an attached silver chain (very sturdy) with a finger ring.

The case and ring are hallmarked for sterling silver, Birmingham, 1903 (d) and maker's mark - partly worn: S.M.L. <P><P>
Condition is very good: the book was probably never used, so the pages are close on pristine and the gilding in wonderful shape. The silver case is also in very good condition.

Antique micromosaic Crucifix / cross pendant - unusually large. Made in Italy late 19th century. <P><P>
Measures 4 1/2 inches (11.5cm) excluding the loop. <P><P>
Latin cross made of chromium-plated brass with the front part decorated by Venetian mosaic with scenes of Italian monuments, inscribed "ROMA" and floral
motifs. Beautifully shaped and designed. Very fine detail. Good condition with no missing tesserae (little stones).

RUSSIAN ICON EARLY CIRCA 1800 JOSEPH & MARY
Genuine Russian icon, dating to the beginning of the 19th century (circa 1800). Oil painted on wood.
Measures 5 1/2 X 7inches.
Very finely painted icon with a touching scene It's an icon entitled, "She (the Mother of God) who healeth. This is an icon showing the Mother of God healing a sick person in bed. It's not your typical type of Russian icon, as in traditional iconogprahy, the Mother of God is rarely portrayed outside of the "hodigitria" or "Mother and Child" theme.
Very finely executed - top quality painting. There is Russian script painted on the wall above the sleeping figure, above the standing figure and in a small box on the bottom left of the painting. The latter has tiny paint loss, but the rest of the painting is in excellent condition.

OLD SILVER NEAR EASTERN AMULET 3
Here is an unusual old silver amulet from the Near East. Probably 19th Century. <P><P> The round shape measures 1 3/4" accross and with the rings on top and bottom 2" long. <P><P> The round shape has a scalloped edge. It is also supplied with one large loop on top for hanging and a few at the bottom - presumably to hang charms from. Instead of being inscribed with holy / magical writings, this amulet has symbolic inscriptions on it - perhaps something personal to the person who made it. <P><P> Good condition with wear appropriate to age and use.

OLD SILVER NEAR EASTERN AMULET
Here is a very old silver amulet, probably originating in the 19th century. Near East - very likely Persian. <P><P> Measures 2 3/8" wide & almost 3" long. <P><P> The amulet especially made by a holy person in order to protect the wearer. It has two rings at the top to be hung from. The surface is decorated with inscribed writings and other decorative elements. The back is plain, but someone has scratched the Hebrew letters aleph and bet on it. <P><P> Condition: very good although the edges are of course somewhat worn/softened with use and age.

VERY OLD SILVER AMULET 1
Genuine old silver amulet traditionally inscribed by a holy person and intended to ward off any potential evil influences. Near Eastern, probably 19th century. <P><P> Measurements: 2" wide and 2 1/4" high. <P><P>The amulet is badge-shaped with two loops at the top through which a cord or chain can be attached. It is inscribed in Arabic lettering. <P><P> There are no silver hallmarks on this amulet as is typical of old Persian/Iraqi (etc) pieces of those days. <P><P> Condition: good. There is some wear and light scratching appropriate to the age and usage of the piece.

Bronze & brass cross - religious wall hanging
This is an old cross from a religous collection dating from the early to the middle of the last (20th) century.
THe cross is 10" long.
The cross itself is made of brass. Besides the engraved INRI above the Corpus, the only adornment is the ring from which to hang it on the wall. The Corpus is either cast bronze or bronze patinated. The figure is highly detailed with fine details of muscles, protruding skeleton, face, hair, fingers and toes. The face is beautifully modelled with great sensitivity and introspection.
Condition is good.

Old brass and opaline beads Rosary
Beautiful old Rosary. 18" long. Beads are opalescent, multi-faceted. 5 beads between cross and medal. Cross is gold-coloured brass. Beautiful patina. Medal, made of same metal shows Jesus, arms raised in benediction and rays radiating all around him on one side. ornate sterling silver Annointment spoon
Most unusual little Sterling silver teaspoon - an exact copy of the ANNOINTMENT SPOON. 4 1/8" long. Very elaborate decoration clearly dating back to Medieval times. Very unusual technique used - like lines of silver applied to the surface as in a drawing. Spoon is cleft - like the 2 chambers of a heart.
