ANTIQUE PAPIER MACHE PERSIAN BOX HP BIRD Antique Persian paper mache jewelry or dresser box, handpainted with birds, flowers and foliage. Probably 19th century.
Measures 4 5/8 inches in diameter.
The background of the box is black. It is painted with delicate flowers and leaves in pinks and greens, very much in the classic Persian taste. A pretty bird in yellow and blue sits atop the flowers. Unusual and ornate 'clasp' in which the lid extends to the bottom of the box in 3 semi-circles.
While the box is clearly very old, it is in very good condition. The only slight loss is to the finish of one of the semi circles extending from the rim of the lid.

INDUSTRY GILT BRONZE JEWELRY BOX CASKET 19C 19th century gilt bronze jewelry box or casket with sculpted relief scenes depicting industry. Sold to me as French, but some possibility that it is Russian. 5 3/8inches long; 3inches wide; 2 5/8inches high. Stands on 4 legs. Exceptional relief sculpture on all sides and top of the casket. Each scene depicts heroic figures pursueing an act of industry. Some work machinery, some plant, water, graft, carry baskets, work in fields, ride carts. Unusually rich background detail of trees, fruit, baskets. The top depicts a youth riding one horse, another reigned with it. The horses rear through a landscape of trees and bushes, houses and high walls in the background. The figures are almost 3-dimentional and the moulding is highly detailed and naturalistic. Beaded border. Inside is lined in it's original green velvet. Original KEY with openwork lion. The very best quality workmanship. Richest gilding. Engraved mark underneath. Excellent condition: no damage of any sort.

Beautiful, rich shell with a large oval enclosure on the lid set with repousse silver flowers and leaves. Excellent condition.

CARVED MOTHER OF PEARL COIN CHANGE PURSE 19C Carved & engraved mother of pearl coin purse. 19th century. England. Rectangular shape with rounded sides. Length is 2 1/2inches. The top is carved into form of a leafy branch with a berry at the end. Back is a single, large slab of shell - absolutely magnificent colours. Inside, original blue silk compartments. Hinge in good, strong shape. Shell and general condition are very good except for one missing part of clip.

TORTOISESHELL & GOLD COIN / CHANGE PURSE 19C Tortoiseshell and gold decorated purse for holding small items such as coins/change/keys. 19th century, England. 2 7/8inches long. Beautiful old shell. Top has a genuine gold shield for inscribing initials (still empty). Gold-coloured trim, probably gilt metal. Inside is red silk lined. Hinge and clasp are in good, strong, working order. Very good condition.

19C BRONZE BOX w MINIATURE PORTRAIT NAPOLEON Antique French bronze box with handpainted enamel miniature portrait of Napoleon Bonaparte on porcelain. <P><P> Measures 3 1/4 X 2 1/4inches. <P><P> Canted corners. Sides with delicate, gilded raised scrolling design. Top has applied fleur de lis scrolling leaves and flowers. The center of the lid has a pink medallion with a wonderful grisaille handpainted portrait of Napoleon as Caesar wearing a laurel crown. <P><P> Hinges firm. Inside been re-lined in pink silk. MAGNIFICENT GUILLOCHE ENAMEL HANDPAINTED BOX Magnificent guilloche enamel and handpainted cigarrette (or calling card) box. Probably early 20th century France. <P>Measures 2 7/8" long and 2" wide. <br> Gorgeous white guilloche enamel in concentric rings. In the center is a purple and pink handpainted rose. The box itself is made of a rich orangy-coloured brass/copper and brass. All the surfaces are crenelated and the top inside has fine engraved lines. There are 'strips' accross to hold the cigarettes (or cards). <P> The box, enamel and paint are all in excellent condition. Hinges and clasp also work well.

VICTORIAN 14K GOLD & HORN JEWELRY BOX 19th century horn box with beautiful 14 carat gold interior.
Round box has 2 7/8inches diameter. Large facets of horn of tortoiseshell shape fitted like a mosaic in a geometric pattern. Inside and edges are gold.

Marked inside, both top and bottom with engraved '14'. WE tested to double check the gold.
Very good condition - no damage of any sort.

C1740 ENAMEL HANDPAINTED PORTRAIT BOX GERMANY OUTSTANDING enamelled box. Probably German. Dates to about 1740. Measures: 3 1/4inch long; 2 3/8inch front to back and 1 1/2inch high. The box is enamel on metal. The metal frame might be gold as was often the case, but this is not clear. It is beautifully decorated with delicate engraving, and the thumb piece is a raised arc. The box itself is rectangular with a slightly arched lid. The outside of the box is handpainted in a soft pink red. Each surface depicts a scene of village life: the top shows a mother and little child walking in the countryside, swathed in flowing garments, the rural scenery around them and village in the background wonderfully depicted, the features and detail of their faces, clothing and basket fabulous. On the front is a poor beggar or travelling hawker, leaning on his stick, heavy sack on his back. Large hat, bent over from his burden. Again, wonderful, wonderful depiction. The sides have wonderful village and rural scenes. Each a great piece in it's own right. The back depicts an old woman resting on a bench in the countryside. Fine, fine detail. Even the underside has a small vignette. The inside of the lid is definately museum quality. It depicts an aristocratic, wealthy lady. She smiles gently out at the viewer. Holds a green parasol in one hand. She is dressed in the finest of clothes with embroidery, lace and ruffles. Her hair is beautifully set and curled and fabulously depicted with the finest detail of the flower decoration and matching earrings. Her face is soft and beautiful, painted in delicate detail and colours. As is to be expected, there is surface cracking in many places on this box. Metalwork in very good condition.

STAFFORDSHIRE ENAMEL GILT-METAL SNUFF BOX 18C Enamel gilt-metal-mounted snuff box late 18th century made Staffordshire, England. <P><P> Measures 3 5/8" long, 2" wide and 1 1/4" high. <P><P> Rectangular form, the hinged cover painted with two ladies and a companion fishing from the banks of a tranquil river with their dog, the sides and inside of the cover with sprays of flowers on a white ground. Some minor restoration to the bottom, but otherwise very good condition.

19C CLOISONNE CIGAR BOX FLORAL DECORATION A 19C Cloisonne cigar box and cover. <P><P> Measures 9.5 X 9.5cm. or 3 3/4" high and diam is 3 3/4". <P><P>Cylindrical lidded box. Black with a band in turquoise blue and decorated with trailing blossoms. Metal geometric patterning on entire outer surface. The inside is plain sky blue. Underneath black feld. <P><P> Condition: the enamel is generally in good condition with some minor pieces lacking on the rim of the lid. THe enamel on the bottom is worn.

VICTORIAN EBONISED JEWEL BOX BRASS DECORATED A 19th century Victorian Ebonised Jewel Box, probably made in England. Measures 6inches long, 5inches wide and height is 2 1/2inches high. Rectangular box in dark wood. Front and top have applied ornate brass decorations. Inside is lined with red silk. Box is in good shape.

ANTIQUE HOFFMAN INTAGLIO GLASS BOX BUTTERFLY Antique signed Hoffman fabulous carved yellow glass trinket / jewelry box with lid. Made by the Hoffman glass factoroy in Bohemia / Czechoslovakia (now the Czech Republic) early 20th century and signed by Hoffman's son-in-law, Henry Schlevogt. <P><P> Measures 2 5/8 inches in diameter. <br> Faceted into 16 sides, cylindrical orange-yellow glass box. Lid is superbly carved with a scene depicting a woman goddess, dressed in Greek toga, waving a billowing shawl, two young godlike musicians on either side. One panlike, plays on a flute, the other, winged, a triangle. They stand on a decorative base. Excellent quality workmanship. <P><P> Within the base is a butterfly - the well-known signature of the Hoffman factory. Tiny initials H.S are acid etched above it. They are the initials of Henry Schlevogt, who designed many of the successful HOffman pieces. <P><P> Condition is good.

OLD TORTOISESHELL COMPACT / PILL BOX Old tortoiseshell compact / pill box. Dates to early 20th century. <P> Measures: 1 3/4" square. With canted corners and small protruberances to facilitate opening. Trim is gold coloured. Inside is mirror.
 

C 1800 REGENCY ROSEWOOD TEACADDY ORIGNL GLASS Fabulous tea caddy made in England in the first two decades of the 19th century. Made of rosewood with the original glass mixing bowl intact. <P><P> Measurements: 8"high; 12" wide; 6 1/4" front to back.<P><P> Two hundred year old tea caddy. Casket shaped with angled lid rising to rectangular top with heavily gadrooned beading on the border. Bun feet. The escutcheon is mother-of-pearl. <P> Inside are two fine, removable compartments for holding green or black tea. One has some remnants of the original lining. The glass bowl inbetween these compartments is original to the piece - has lasted intact for 200 years. It is a smoky glass, slightly grey in colour and beautifully rounded at the bottom. <P> Sides have extended handles with elegant loops hanging through them. ONe wooden loop broke, but can easilly be reglued as the breaks are clean - we have the parts. Beautiful grain and patina to the wood. <P><P> Condition: extremely good. As mentioned one loop has to be reglued. The bowl has a very small rim chip. Most of the brass hardware is original, except for the lid's hinges, which appear to be later.<P><P>
