3432
VINTAGE JUDAICA SILVER SERVING SPOON OPENWORK Vintage Judaica sterling silver serving spoon with openwork / cut out Hebrew letters spelling the word "MAZAL".

Measures 8 1/4 inches long and weighs over 2 oz.

Beautifully crafted spoon with repoussed scrolls around the arching handle. TIght, very high quality workmanship. THe end of the handle has a moulded fanshaped shell with foliage beneath that and an engraved initial which looks like T or J.

The bowl of the spoon has large Hebrew letters Mem, Zayin and Lamed, spelling out Mazal - Luck in Hebrew. While this spoon comes alone, we are guessing that originally it would have had a partner knife/fork, which might have spelled out TOV. THat is pure conjecture.

THe spoon has an unidentified maker's hallmark and the word STERLING on the back. The slight wear of the mark indicates that this is a vintage spoon.

Very good condition.

Click for more detail...
3192
IMPERL RUSSIAN SILVER JUDAICA SNUFF JEWEL BOX Judaica : Silver snuff / jewelry box made in Imperial Russia, 1897, with Star of David and engraved Hebrew dedication.
Measures 3 1/4 inches long; 1 1/2 inches wide and 1 13/16 inch high. Weighs 143.4g
Rectangular box with long, elegant thumbpiece. Surface has feather / foliate engraved decoration with foliate corners and X's front and back. Good long hinges join lid to bottom.
Bottom of box is marked inside with Russian hallmarks A.C over 1897 ; 84 for Russian silver standard and maker: IP which might be for Fedor Ruckert who worked for Faberge in Moscow.(we are not Russian specialists, so draw your own conclusions). The outside of the lid has a double walled circle with double-walled engraving of a Star of David. Inside, in engraved letters are the words in Hebrew L'ESTHER DAVID ie dedicated to Esther David. While boxes of this shape are normally referred to as snuff boxes, the dedication on the lid, to a woman, indicates that it might have been used for trinkets or jewellery.
Condition is good. Minor signs of age, concommitant with the age of the item, but no damage/restoration.

3158
VINTAGE BRASS BRONZE SABBATH CANDLESTICKS ISR Vintage brass or bronze patinated candelabrum / candlesticks made to celebrate the Jewish Holidays and Sabbath. Made in israel, around the 1950-60's.

Measures a little under 8 1/4 inches high and max width is almost 10 3/4inches.
Made of a patinated brass or bronze - gilded look in parts and a textured, almost stone-like look in others. Unusual hexagonal base - like a double diamond, with embossed Hebrew lettering for Sabbath and Holy Days on each facet. The neck is also very unusual - shaped like a styalised ram's head with a sheath of corn in the center (front and back) and scrolling arms, like the horns of the goat. Falling into the concave center on top of this is a circle with a Star of David in it - in reticulated openwork. Above this is a Crown-like series of arches with the arms of the candlestick in mirror-image C shapes, the actual candle holder in the form of flowers fitting into the v between curves.
No mark/signature to be found. Good condition.

Click for more detail...
3009
VINTAGE JUDAICA TABLECLOTH 6 NAPKIN LION BIRD Judaica: Vintage Lion of Judah hand embroidered tablecloth with 6 napkins. Bought in Israel, but probably pre-dates the State (ie Palestine era).
Cloth measures 27 1/2 inches square. Napkins are a little over 8 1/4inches square.
Cloth is a pale cream colour. Embroidery in pale blue. The hand work is extremely fine and of the highest quality. Simple geometric borders and outlines. The cloth has a central square, each side with a blue diamond-shape containing a geometric stylised bird - possibly of Russian / other Eastern European influence. A wider square around this has 4 larger diamond-shapes in blue, each containing a similar bird, even more reminiscent of the Russian eagle above a pair of lions, surrounded by stylised flowers.
The borders and birds are repeated on the 6 napkins.
Good condition with a few tiny negligible brown spots as is to be expected.

Measures 7 X 9 1/2inches.
Made of silk and lined with cotton. Drawstring top.
The only decoration is a gilt metal Star of David (Magen David). The bag has been used and shows marks of use and even a few patches where the silk has worn. However, it is most interesting from a historical viewpoint of the austerely simple, religious items used in pre State Israel.

1853
JUDAICA ISRAEL PAINTING LISTED ARTIST CHILDRN Early Eretz Yisrael / Palestine signed water color painting of children picking oranges in original frame by Erna Grossman Kneller.
Measures 9 1/2 X 6 1/2inchs excluding the wooden frame.
This painting was probably used later in school text books. It is immediately recognisable to everyone who was educated in Israel about 50 years ago. This is the original.
A pair of young children are picking oranges. The boy climbs a ladder, followed by a large frog. The girl, a pair of pruning scissors in hand, picks a great big orange. Many more lie scattered around or in the overflowing basket near the ladder. The girl wears a scarf, pantaloons and suspenders holding up her stockings. Butterflies flutter behind her.
The painting is signed Kneller, lower right.
Very nice, old wooden frame.
Both frame and painting are in very good condition. No damage of any sort.
The paper backing the frame hints at the days of the British Mandate.
