PRIMITIVE WOOD SILVER TORAH YAD POINTER
Antique Judaica wood and silver primitive Torah Yad / pointer. Made in the Middle East or North Africa.

A little under 10 inches long.

Very primitive Yad made of wood, showing signs of very good age. Silver with Yemenite filigree style decoraiton and a coral bead as well as little silver bells that jingle as the Yad moves. Sold to me as 'silver', but I am not sure what the metal is and if silver, not of the highest grade. The tip of the index, pointing finger broke off and has to be restored. Still a very interesting historic item.

ANTIQUE JUDAICA PEWTER PESACH PLATE ENGRAVED
Dated, antique Judaica pewter Pessach (Passover) plate, engraved with animals and Hebrew symbols and letters. Made in Germany and engraved 1908.

Measures 11 3/4 inches/ 30cms in diameter.

Very old pewter plate, round with ends folded under the rim. The entire surface is engraved with Hebrew letters, symbols and figures relating to Passover: Rachatz, Karpas, Yachatz etc in a ring around the outer border. In slightly smaller letters around the sloping side are the names of the owners: Natan Bar Moshe and the wife, Palcha Bat Avraham. The year is engraved next to the names: Shnat Taf, Resh, Samech, Chet (for 1908).

The center of the plate is engraved with a ring of animals/symbols relating to Passover: a lamb, a bird, an egg, a fish. Inscribed Beitza, Melach, Levyatan (what this connection is, we don't know), melach. In the center is a large Star of David with various letters engraved in all parts. I do not know what the significance of these letters are.

The back has a number of embossed marks: 3 ovals with the mark used for high quality pewter in Germany since early 18th century: the ore angel, Michael holding a sword in 1 hand and a balance in the other. It appears that there is a leaping deer on one side, but since the marks are not clearly legible, it is not clear. The letters on the top of the mark are illegible, underneath they read ENGLISCHE ZINN (for high quality pewter). Another mark is simply No. 5 and probably relates to the size of the plate.

Condition is as one would expect for a plate of this age, with light surface scratches and minor dings, but nothing to distract from the fascinating quality of the item.

VINTAGE JUDAICA TABLECLOTH 6 NAPKIN LION BIRD
Judaica: Vintage Lion of Judah hand embroidered tablecloth with 6 napkins. Bought in Israel, but probably pre-dates the State (ie Palestine era). Cloth measures 27 1/2 inches square. Napkins are a little over 8 1/4inches square. Cloth is a pale cream colour. Embroidery in pale blue. The hand work is extremely fine and of the highest quality. Simple geometric borders and outlines. The cloth has a central square, each side with a blue diamond-shape containing a geometric stylised bird - possibly of Russian / other Eastern European influence. A wider square around this has 4 larger diamond-shapes in blue, each containing a similar bird, even more reminiscent of the Russian eagle above a pair of lions, surrounded by stylised flowers. The borders and birds are repeated on the 6 napkins. Good condition with a few tiny negligible brown spots as is to be expected.

JUDAICA PRE1948 TALLIS /TFILLIN BAG PALESTINE
Tallis / Tfillin bag, made in Palestine, pre 1948 Israel. Measures 7 X 9 1/2inches. Made of silk and lined with cotton. Drawstring top. The only decoration is a gilt metal Star of David (Magen David). The bag has been used and shows marks of use and even a few patches where the silk has worn. However, it is most interesting from a historical viewpoint of the austerely simple, religious items used in pre State Israel.
