AMPHORA FIGURINE NUDE SEAHORSES PELICANS
Unusual Amphora figure of a nude with seahorses and holding a basket shaped as strange birds and pelicans. Made in Chechoslovakia 1918-1939. Measures 8 1/2inches high. A slim young lady with long, flowing hair stands on a round base, modelled with typical Amphora impressed and inset beads. Around the base are 3 strange
seahorses, wonderfully modelled in exotic forms and very graceful. The girl holds a basket on one shoulder. It is made in the form of a ring of pelicans.
Very exciting forms of these animals echo the folds of the seahorses and contrast with the smooth skin of the girl. Underneath is a blue underglaze oval with Made in Czechoslovakia around the word Amphora, the mark used 1918-1939. Impressed numbers 20192 and 26. Condition is excellent. Antique Handpainted Rosenthal sugar & creamer
A sugar and creamer to fall in love with: Measurements are 5" to top of sugar and 4 1/8" to top of creamer.
Made by the famous Rosenthal factory in Bavaria, Germany. These pieces date to the turn of the previous century and are about 100 years old. They are moulded in a most unusual twisted form - like waves that twist and curve as they move upwards. Each 'panel' or wave is painted alternately in pale sky blue and matching pale pastel yellow. Handles , trim and lid are all solid gold painted, with lots of rich gold on the inside rim of the sugar pot. Some of the bands of yellow have been further decorated with beautiful handpainted sprigs of cornflower blue flowers and foliage. The bottoms, rather than being simply scalloped, have folds within the scallops, so that it almost seems as thought the pieces are standing on tip-toes and twisting round. The tops are similairly curled and the lid above the sugar pot gives a very carousel - like look to the set. The lid has a twisted gold handle on it's top.
Both pieces are marked with the Rosenthal crown amid crossed lines with R. C. on either side. Below the logo is the word VERSAILLES (the name of the pattern) and Bavaria. All this in underglaze green.
In general the condition of these pieces is good. The painting of the flowers could be described as mint and the general surface is in excellent shape. However, there is some wear to the gilding; amongst the pleats, tucks and folds of the bottom, I found a negligible shallow chip on the creamer, which also has a totally insignificant kiln-crack underneath (which does not go through to any depth).
