3547
BRONZE SCULPTURE FRENCH BULLDOG OPAL MALACHI Bronze sculpted French Bulldog or Boston Terrier with real opal eyes and gilded detail to collar. Sits on a hardstone base - possibly granite, inlaid with panels of green and blue stone, believed to be malachite / lapis lazuli. Possibly intended as a paperweight as it is heavy.

Base measures approx 3 X 2 1/4inches. Total height is 3 3/4inches.

What a face!!!! Dog sits on his haunches, little tail sticking out at the back, ears raised in alert pose. Head thrust slightly forward - ready for action.
From the great detail of the musculature, which is slightly stylised, the figure might date to the Art Deco period (1920-30's), but this is conjecture. The detail is stunning: tiny golden studs on the collar and subtle inlay of the green/blue marbled stone. The expression on the face is priceless.
Very nice opals set as eyes. No marks to be found. Good condition.

DECO SILVER ROCK CRYSTAL SCULPTURE CLASSIC Antique silver and rock crystal sculpture of the Classic Greek figure of Atlas holding up the world, done with clear Art Deco influence during the early 20th century.

Measures a little over 5 1/4 inches high.

Superbly detailed figure of Atlas holding up the earth. Stands on a round base with unusual, engraved pattern around the side. Atlas, with huge wavy beard, blind eyes and floral wreath on his head, heroically holding a globe made of pure rock crystal, encircled with a writhing snake, about to pounce. The detail is outstanding - from the finely modelled fingers, to the nails on the toes, the locks of hair and wonderful muscled body.

The folds of the toga are somewhat stylised and echo the Art Deco design very clearly. Similarly, the leaf-shaped supports of the globe are engraved with a clearly Deco design.

The sculpture is not signed, but it is guarranteed to be silver. Very good condition.

SIGNED OSCAR BACH ART DECO PR CHARGERS DEER W Signed American Art Deco pair of lustre chargers (big plates), with relief sculpture of a deer and wolf. VICTORIAN 3-D TERRACOTTA PLAQUE CHILD WINDOW Extraordinary, large 3 dimentional plaque - child in a bonnet looking through a window. Victorian. Very rare.
20 X 14 inches.
A little girl leans out of a window. Flanked on either side by Corinthian columns, one with grapes and vines, all carved in 3 dimentions. The scrolling capitols of the columns and pediment above the window are richly decorated with raised decoration, leaves, flowers etc The child is dressed in a large, frilly bonnet. The frills echoed by her dress. Bonnet tied with a ribbon - amazingly realistic. The face is painted a warm sunblessed peach with bright cheeks. She seems pensive, holding a single flower in one hand, one of her knuckles is scraped and bleeding - possibly full of symbolism. Fantastic detail to bonnet, face, clothes.
Besides a chip on one of the numerous folds of her bonnet, the plaque is in excellent condition.

839
4 SCULPTED PLAQUES / MEDALLIONS 4 SEASONS Wedgwood type stoneware / basalt / painted plaster as done by Wedgwood and other companies. 4 plaques, each depicting one of the 4 seasons. Magnificent allegorical carving in relief. Each measures 5 1/4inch in diameter. They are mounted in pairs on mustard velvet and framed. Wonderful detail and crisp quality to the moulding. Spring is a nubile maiden attended by putti and young boys. Wreaths and baskets of fruit lie in abandon. Summer is a pair of lovers, scythe in hand, amidst a field of corn, an older woman shears the sheathes. Each ear of corn is distinguishable and the features and folds of the clothes are fabulous. Autumn/Fall is a domestic scene: the mother with baby at her breast, man bringing home fruit and game that he has hunted and gathered. His dog at his side. Winter is depicted as an old couple warming themselves at a fire. Laundry hangs on a line and a cat hogs the best spot next to the warmth.
Later information: these plaques are original designs by Bertel Thorvaldsen. A 19th century Danish sculptor considered on par with Canova. So no surprise they are by Royal Copenhagen.
