Antique French handpainted oval enamel on copper plaque depicting a Greek goddess with a cherub. Circa 1800.
Wood frame is just under 4inches high. Plaque is slightly over 2 1/2inches high.
Blue ground. A Greek goddess strides alongside a little cherub, holding up a book. In the background is a hill with a Greek temple, the Parthenon. The vignette is surrounded by a delicate pattern of leaves outlined in gold. There is a very nice gilt bronze inner frame. The outer, wooden frame has been cracked and badly repaired. The plaque & inner frame are in good condition. |
