Artist signed enamel on copper plaques depicting Naomi and Ruth as she uncovers the feet of Boaz in a famous Bibilical Scene. Underneath it, in handwritten enamel is a quote from the Book of Ruth and above the arched plaque are two small handwritten plaques with the names of the figures. Made by well-known octaganarian enamelist Margaret Ratcliff.
Enamel plaques measure 6inches wide. The top group is 8 inches high and the bottom, textual plaque is almost 1 3/4inches high. Frame is just under 15 X 19 1/2inches.
This is a fitted group of enamel on copper plaques. The bottom one is purely textual. On a dark brown/black framed blue background, the text from the scene depicting Ruth, Naomi and Boaz is written by hand in enamel. The main plaque is a domed rectangle, the corners done seperately and attached to complete the rectangular shape. They are also handwritten in enamel with the names of the protaginists. The main plaque depicts all 3 figures: Boaz, lieing down next to a window with the moon shining in, a stone wall in the foreground. The beautiful Ruth lies at his feet and lifts the blanket/cover, while, hidden around a corner, a veiled Naomi looks on. This is a very dramatic moment, beautifully depicted in one of the finest enamel works of this artist. It is signed on the bottom right: M RATCLIFF and is in excellent condition.
Comes framed and mounted and ready to hang. |
