Judaica: Vintage Lion of Judah hand embroidered tablecloth with 6 napkins. Bought in Israel, but probably pre-dates the State (ie Palestine era).
Cloth measures 27 1/2 inches square. Napkins are a little over 8 1/4inches square.
Cloth is a pale cream colour. Embroidery in pale blue. The hand work is extremely fine and of the highest quality. Simple geometric borders and outlines. The cloth has a central square, each side with a blue diamond-shape containing a geometric stylised bird - possibly of Russian / other Eastern European influence. A wider square around this has 4 larger diamond-shapes in blue, each containing a similar bird, even more reminiscent of the Russian eagle above a pair of lions, surrounded by stylised flowers.
The borders and birds are repeated on the 6 napkins.
Good condition with a few tiny negligible brown spots as is to be expected. |
