Antique black fan. Front is decorated with coloured sequins and handpainted with flowers and a couple dressed in 18th century formal attire. Believed to be made in France and date to the 19th century. <br><br>
Measures 17 1/2 inches tip to tip when open; guard sticks are just under 9 3/4 inches long.<br>
Black wooden sticks with openwork, delicate pattern, held together by a metal ring. The fan itself is made of black fabric with gauze at the back. It is handpainted with swags of flowers and in the center, a couple, formally dressed in pink and blue, typical of courtiers from the Louis XVI. HIghlights in somewhat faded gold paint and sewn on coloured sequins.
Condition is fair with some splitting and wear typical of a fan of this age. |
