Very fine antique black gauze fan with delicate sequin work. From a collection of antique and vintage fans, this one is believed to date to ealy 20th century, possibly from France or Spain.<br><br>
Measures approx 14 1/4 inches accross tips of guardsticks when open; guard sticks just under 8 inches. <br>
Fan is made of black silk and black gauze. The silk is cut in parts to make a subtle pattern of transparent areas. Almost the entire surface is sewn with fine metallic sequins of differing shapes. The sticks and guards are made of a form of rubber or plastic with white embossed scrolls and foliage.<br>
General condition is good, but close inspection reveals one tiny hole in the black cloth and the join of cloth to guard is loose on one side.
