Antique Chinese blue enamel and brass cloisonne box or casket made for holding cigars or jewelry. Approximate date 1900 - 1920. <br> Measures 7 inches accross; slightly under 3 inches high and 3 1/2 inches front to back. <br> Rectangular box with slightly rounded corners on top. The surface of the 6 visible sides of the box are covered almost entirely by deep cobalt blue cloisonne enamel. The top in a pattern of concentric circles, like a thrown fish net with the smallest enclosures near the center and increasing in size towards the borders. The center has a round medallion with Chinese writing in brass inlaid in the enamel. Another, smaller ring on the front also contains Chinese pictogramic letters. <br> The box stands on 4 ball feet in brass. The bottom has turquoise enamel with no decoration. Inside, the box is lined with a dark-stained wood. <br> Condition is generally very good with some negligible imperfections and lots of dirt that we are reluctant to clean. Metal frame and hinges in good, original condition. |
