Antique Sterling silver Walter Wilkinson golf trophy, made in Birmingham, England, 1933 and presented in 1934.

Measures 9 1/4 inches high. Weighs 291.5grams.

Beautifully elegant trophy, stands on a stepped round foot, with knopf leading to the round cup with triple raised waist, seemingly anchored by arching fan-like tie-backs. On either side are wonderful handles with moulded and engraved foliage curling up and a great Art Nouveau whiplash double loop at the bottom. The equally elegant, tightly fitting lid ends in a fabulous figure of a golfer taking a swing. Wonderful detail - you can feel the power as his jacket sweeps back in the opposite direction to the golf club.
The front of the trophy is engraved Walter WIlkinson Replica Cup. Winner 1934 R.P. Lindner. Apparrently Mr Wilkinson was a famous golfer and hunter.

The trophy is hallmarked on the side, near one handle: FCR (maker's mark), anchor for Birmingham, date letter J for 1933 and lion passant. Underneath the cup is the engraved name of the maker: FC RICHARDS BIRMINGHAM.

Good condition. |
