Pair of vintage Murano / Venetian glass figurines depicting an 18th century courtier his country lady. 40-75 years old.
Man measures 9 inches high and woman is slightly less.
Both figures stand on round bases. Made of clear glass with real gold sprinkled inside for highlights and effect and wonderful pink / red and white internal
canes with intricate patterns of spiral twists and latticinio decoration. Rigaree or trail details added later.
The gallant stands with one hand behind his back, the other leaning on a cane in a half-bow pose. He wears a fancy pair of boots and garters and ruffled
cravat. Great detail to buttons and pockets, hair flying out behind. Woman leans back demurely, holding a large bunch of roses under her bosom. Could be
Marie Antoinette in one of her Country Maid games.
Excellent detail to glass work - from facial features to trim on clothes and hair.
Condition is very good. The only damage is a small chip on the woman's hat, shown in the 'photos. Otherwise, no wear/damage/restoration. |
