Gold, silver, sapphire and diamond brooch in an openwork design on different levels, echoing the work of Moser and Hoffman of the Wiener Werkstatte. Unmarked.

Measures 1 6/8 inch long.

Rectangular brooch with delicate gold border. A filigree, openwork design contains a number of round sapphires set in gold 'tubes' that protrude from the surface plain of the brooch. A pair of scrolling V's is set with old cut diamonds in silver and is also above the plain of the brooch, but lower than the sapphires. The Victorians often used silver and gold together. A number of small gold globes echo and accentuate the sapphires. The quality of the work is shown by the beauty of the back. Great design that subtly mixes antique with modern design. (modern as used early 20th century).

Brooch is not hallmarked, but we tested the gold. It is at least 18 carat (the acid did not dissolve the gold at that level).

Good condition. |
