Antique miniature Church of England Prayer book, including Hymns and Psalms, in a sterling silver case holder, Birmingham, 1903. <P><P> The max length of the book is 2 1/4 inches and under 2 inches accross. THe holder is very slightly bigger and weighs 43grams. <P><P> Beautifully leather-bound book with a gold cross on the front. The sides of the pages are richly gilded and a gold scrolling pattern on the border of the inside covers peeps out around them. Marker made of purple silk. <P> Spine of the book embossed in gold:Common Prayer, underlined, Hymns A&M. and OXFORD. <P> One of the front pages informs us: Printed at the University Press London: Henry Prowde. It contains tables of lessons, dates, feasts, etc and sections for Hymns - ancient and modern and Psalms. Illustraded on some pages. <P><P> The case is made of sterling silver with a beautifully shaped arch cut out on either side. It has an attached silver chain (very sturdy) with a finger ring. <P><P> The case and ring are hallmarked for sterling silver, Birmingham, 1903 (d) and maker's mark - partly worn: S.M.L. <P><P> Condition is very good: the book was probably never used, so the pages are close on pristine and the gilding in wonderful shape. The silver case is also in very good condition. |
