Antique Chinese lacquer cinnabar box / casket. Signed underneath with very old mark, but presumed to be made somewhat later - perhaps 100 years ago.

The entire outside is very richly covered in thick layers of laquer ina dark red-brown. The top is slightly domed. Top depicts a number of small vignettes of

scholars and philosophers in various landscapes, under huge trees and amidst rocky arrangements. Sides are decorated with flowers and underneath with a

geometric pattern, centered by a rectangular signature. Hinged lid. <P><P>
