Georgian sterling silver fish server / slice. Made Exeter, England, 1821-2 by William Welch. <P><P> Measures a little over 11 1/2 inches long. Weighs 133grams. <P><P> Slightly scoop-shaped, in order to hold fish more securely and possibly to catch a bit of gravy. Classic scrolling, assymetrical serving shape with delicate engraved pattern on the edges, typical of the Georgian period. The center has an openwork decoration of a fish, with wonderful engraved detail to fins and scales. The handle forms one piece with the scoop/ladle, with additional support in a raised, pointed V on the top. Rat-tail back of handle. <P><P> Clearly hallmarked on the back:WW for maker William Welch; King's head; lion passant, Exeter Town mark and date letter 'e'. <P><P> Very good condition. |
