Bronze sculpted French Bulldog or Boston Terrier with real opal eyes and gilded detail to collar. Sits on a hardstone base - possibly granite, inlaid with panels of green and blue stone, believed to be malachite / lapis lazuli. Possibly intended as a paperweight as it is heavy.

Base measures approx 3 X 2 1/4inches. Total height is 3 3/4inches.

What a face!!!! Dog sits on his haunches, little tail sticking out at the back, ears raised in alert pose. Head thrust slightly forward - ready for action. From the great detail of the musculature, which is slightly stylised, the figure might date to the Art Deco period (1920-30's), but this is conjecture. The detail is stunning: tiny golden studs on the collar and subtle inlay of the green/blue marbled stone. The expression on the face is priceless. Very nice opals set as eyes. No marks to be found. Good condition. |
