Antique, Victorian gold and coral brooch. Circa 1840-1880. Measures slightly over 1 1/4 inches long and approx 1 inch wide. Depth over 1/4 inch.

Set in a rectangular mount with rounded sides and corners and a frill of twisted gold ribbon. Beautiful red coloured coral, deeply carved in the Victorian
Neo Classic / Classical Revival style. Depicts a woman or goddess, seemingly asleep, emerging from a sea of swirling scrolls / waves. The scrolling theme is
finely echoed in the hair, with it's waves and ringlets in every direction. Full cheeks, fine cherub mouth and high brow with the curve of a monumental neck
protruding from the surrounding sea of scrolls.

Pin on the back is hallmarked 10K (gold mount also tests as such).

Good, original condition. There is a small flaw / uneven colour in the coral, shown magnified in the pictures, not noticeable to the naked eye unless you are
looking for it. |
