Manufacturer: ANTIQUE DECO LONGWY BOX - FRENCH ENAMEL IN JAPAN TASTE
Antique/vintage Art Deco period large Longwy box with lid in the Japanese taste. Made in France, circa 1920 - 30's. <P><P> Approx 6 3/4 inches accross and 2 1/2 inches high. <P><P> Hexagonal box. Each corner is canted and decorated with a deep blue strip. The top of the side has a moulded ledge for the lid to fit onto. The indside of the box and lid are both turquoise. The outside of the lid and sides of the bottom are decorated with classic Longwy bright colours in a Japanese influenced design. The ground is bright blue and is very richly covered in branches, foliage and flowers in deep, bright enameled shades. Enamelling, especially the ruby-red centers of the flowers is almost jewel-like. Flowing branches echo the Arts and Crafts movement. <P><P> Bottom of box has hand-written T.3090 in black ink; an impressed 2, a large Longwy factory mark and Made in France, which dates it to post 1924. <P><P> Very good condition. Crazing as is to be expected on all Longwy pottery. No chips/cracks/restoration of any sort. |
